Runtime Application Self-Protection (RASP)

Runtime Application Self-Protection (RASP) is a set of defences built into an app that detect and react to attacks while it runs. Instead of relying only on outside controls, the app watches itself and can respond, for example by closing a session when it sees tampering or a hooking tool.

On mobile, RASP often combines checks such as root and jailbreak detection, tamper detection and anti-instrumentation. It raises the cost of attack but, like obfuscation, it supports a secure design rather than replacing one.
